Nigeria’s electricity distribution sector is undergoing another period of leadership and structural change in 2026.
The country’s 12 major electricity distribution companies, commonly known as DisCos, remain the critical link between power generation and consumers, with responsibilities spanning electricity distribution, metering, billing, network maintenance and customer service.
But the leadership landscape has shifted significantly since 2025, with new appointments at some of the country’s biggest DisCos, including Ikeja Electric, Eko DisCo and Ibadan DisCo.
Here are the executives leading the 12 DisCos as of 2026:
1. Ogochukwu Onyelucheya — Ikeja Electric
Ogochukwu Onyelucheya became Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ikeja Electric effective July 1, 2026, succeeding Folake Soetan, who moved into a broader strategic role within the energy sector.
Ikeja Electric is one of Nigeria’s largest DisCos, serving customers across several parts of Lagos State.
The leadership transition comes as the company seeks to accelerate growth, innovation, operational efficiency and service delivery.
2. Sherifat Adegbenro — Eko Electricity Distribution Company
Sherifat Adegbenro is the Acting CEO of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).
Her appointment was approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in March 2026, following the exit of Wola Joseph-Condotti, who had served as interim CEO after Rekhiat Momoh stepped down.
Adegbenro previously served as Deputy CEO and Chief Audit and Compliance Officer at EKEDC.
3. Deolu Ijose — Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company
Deolu Ijose took over as Managing Director/CEO of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in March 2026.
He succeeded Francis Agoha and returned to a company where he previously served as Chief Commercial Officer.
Ijose also previously served as Managing Director of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, giving him extensive experience across Nigeria's power distribution sector.
4. Chijioke Okwuokenye — Abuja Electricity Distribution Company
Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye is the Managing Director/CEO of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
He has more than 15 years of experience across Nigeria's power sector and previously served as AEDC's Chief Operations Officer.
Under his leadership, AEDC has been pursuing measures to improve supply, reduce losses and expand infrastructure. The company has also begun transitioning towards a holding-company structure in response to Nigeria's decentralised electricity market.
5. Ete Pinnick — Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company
Ete Pinnick is the Managing Director/CEO of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED).
A former senior supply-chain executive at Mondelēz International and Unilever Nigeria, Pinnick brings extensive corporate and operational experience to the power distribution business.
PHED serves Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. Its leadership focus has included operational transformation, efficiency and customer service.
6. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta — Kano Electricity Distribution Company
Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta heads Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
He became Managing Director in May 2025 after previously serving as the company's Chief Commercial Officer.
In 2026, KEDCO has continued to pursue renewable-energy and infrastructure investments across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina, including solar and embedded-power initiatives.
7. Umar Abubakar Hashidu — Kaduna Electric
Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu is the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
A systems engineer and management specialist, Hashidu previously worked at KEDCO and also contributed to World Bank-supported power-sector reform initiatives.
Kaduna Electric operates across Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.
8. Sediko Douka — Jos Electricity Distribution Company
Engr. Sédiko Douka is the Managing Director/CEO of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).
He assumed the position in October 2025 after serving as an ECOWAS Commissioner responsible for infrastructure, energy, mines, water resources, digitalisation and postal services.
His extensive career includes more than three decades of experience in energy, infrastructure and regional development.
9. Abdulrahman Ahmad Isa — Yola Electricity Distribution Company
Engr. Abdulrahman Ahmad Isa is the MD/CEO of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC).
YEDC serves Adamawa, Taraba, Borno and Yobe States.
The company currently lists Isa as its MD/CEO and identifies him as part of its senior management team.
10. Jonathan Lawani — Benin Electricity Distribution Company
Engr. Jonathan Lawani is the Acting Managing Director/CEO of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
He has extensive experience in power systems, energy infrastructure and project execution, having previously worked at Eko Electricity Distribution Company.
In 2026, Lawani has been leading BEDC's operations across Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti States, including the company's ongoing metering drive.
11. Vincent Ekwekwu — Enugu Electricity Distribution Company/FirstPower
The former Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has entered a new phase following the emergence of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company in Anambra State.
Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu has been identified as Managing Director/CEO of EEDC in 2026, while FirstPower, formerly EEDC, is also being led by Engr. Okechukwu Okafor as Managing Director/CEO in its new structure.
The changes reflect the growing impact of Nigeria's decentralised electricity-market framework, particularly in states establishing their own electricity markets.
12. Ugochukwu Opiegbe — Aba Power
Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe is the Managing Director/CEO of Aba Power, Nigeria's 12th electricity distribution company.
Appointed in 2024, Opiegbe has a legal and corporate background and previously served as Executive Director of Legal Services at Geometric Power.
Aba Power operates within Aba and parts of Abia State and is closely linked to the Geometric Power project, which has helped reshape electricity supply in the Aba industrial cluster.
A Sector Undergoing Major Change
The leadership of Nigeria's DisCos is no longer simply about keeping electricity flowing through existing networks.
The executives are now navigating a rapidly changing power market characterised by tariff reforms, metering challenges, infrastructure investment, renewable energy, embedded generation, state-level electricity regulation and growing pressure from consumers for better service.
There have also been notable leadership changes in some of the country's biggest DisCos in 2026. Ikeja Electric, Eko DisCo and IBEDC have all experienced major executive transitions, while the evolution of EEDC into a more decentralised structure highlights the wider transformation taking place across the sector.
For millions of Nigerians, however, the ultimate test remains simple: more reliable electricity, better customer service, accurate metering and fewer outages.
And in 2026, the performance of these CEOs will be measured not only in boardrooms, but increasingly by what Nigerians experience when they switch on the light.
