Google said Nigerians relied heavily on Search to track fast-moving political headlines, celebrity news, global conflicts, pop culture and lifestyle trends throughout the year.
“High-profile figures drove significant interest, with Senator Natasha Akpoti emerging as the #1 most searched Nigerian personality,” the report noted, highlighting strong public engagement with political events.
Internationally, Nigerians also kept a close eye on major global developments, including the Israel–Iran War and the U.S. Elections, both of which appeared prominently in the top trends.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Google West Africa, said the 2025 list reflects “what truly captured Nigerians’ attention.”
“The 2025 Year in Search is more than just data; it’s a vibrant, unfiltered mirror of our collective attention,” he said.
“Whether it’s tracking the biggest headlines, reflecting on icons we lost, or figuring out the latest slang, Nigerians are using Search to actively engage with the world around them.”

Google reported strong interest across politics, sports, Nollywood, Afrobeats and global pop culture. Local names that dominated searches included:

In 2024, personalities like Bobrisky dominated search, while musicians Shallipopi and Khaid topped entertainment trends.
Major news topics included the U.S. elections, Nigeria’s new national anthem, and the national grid.
